Instructions for Authors:

The Journal recommends that authors follow the Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals formulated by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE).

The journal may use software to screen for plagiarism.

Types of papers:

Original Research articles:

Details of original experiments/research conducted by the authors. Any research on any topic within the aims and scope of the journal is accepted. Word limit is 3000 words (excluding abstract, references and tables), maximum 40 references, up to 4 tables and 4 figures; abstract word count ranges from 150-250 words and must be structured as specified later.

Review articles:

Detailed and balanced overviews of a field or topic of interest, including systematic reviews, with or without meta-analysis, within the scope of the journal are accepted. Abstract (unstructured, 150-250 words); up to 100 references; up to 8 tables/figures). Word limit: 5,000 words.

Case Reports:

Provides a summary of an interesting or rare case, finding, or outcome. Word limit: 2,500 words.

Methodologies:

Explains a new methodology or an improvement in an existing methodology in laboratory techniques or procedures.

Technical reports:

Reports on advances/testing/comparative studies for laboratory procedures, standard practices, tests, or instrumental methods. 

Manuscript Submission

Submission of a manuscript implies: that the work described has not been published before; that it is not under consideration for publication anywhere else; that its publication has been approved by all co-authors and tacitly or explicitly by the responsible authorities where the work was carried out. The publisher will not be held legally responsible should there be any claims for compensation. If accepted, the article will not be published elsewhere, in English or in any other language, without the written consent of the copyright holder.

Permissions

Authors wishing to include previously published figures, tables, or text must obtain and provide evidence of permission from the copyright owner(s) for both print and online formats, otherwise, the material will be assumed to be original to the authors.

Online Submission

Please click “Submit manuscript” and upload all of your manuscript files following the instructions given on the screen. 

Title Page:

You are required to submit the title page in a separate document as we utilize a double-blinded peer-reviewing process. The title page must include the following details:

Article title:

Article titles should be concise and informative. Please avoid abbreviations, unless they are established and widely understood, e.g., DNA).

Author(s) information:

  • The name(s) of the author(s). The order of authors should match the order in the submission system.
  • The affiliation(s) of the author(s), i.e. institution, (department), city, (state), country. Indicate affiliations using a lower-case superscript number immediately after the author's name.
  • Corresponding author. Indicate who will handle correspondence for your article at all stages of the refereeing, publication process and after publication. An active e-mail address of the corresponding author is required.
  • If available, the 16-digit ORCID of the author(s).Statements and Declarations:

The following statements should be included under the heading "Statements and Declarations" in the title page:

  • Competing Interests:Authors are required to disclose any financial or non-financial interests that are directly or indirectly related to the work submitted for publication. If authors have no competing interests, a statement such as ‘The author(s) declare no potential competing interests concerning the research, authorship, and/or publication of this article’.
  • Ethical approval: Please include your ethics approval statements under this heading, even if details of ethics approval was included in your methods section. The statement must state the relevant Ethics Committee or Institutional Review Board that approved the study and the ethical approval number. The statement must also confirm that the study has been performed in accordance with the ethical standards laid down in the Declaration of Helsinki.
  • Consent to participate: Please include participant consent details and state whether informed consent to participate was written or verbal. If this does not apply to your manuscript, please state ‘Not applicable’.
  • Consent for publication: Written informed consent should be obtained from the individual(s) for the publication of any potentially identifiable images or data included in your article. If this is not applicable to your manuscript, please state ‘Not applicable’.
  • Author contributions: Authors are required to include contribution statements in the work that specify the contribution of every author to promote transparency.

       Acknowledgements:

If applicable, acknowledgments of people, grants or funds should be placed at the end of the manuscript text. The names of funding organizations should be written in full.

Manuscript Text:

Manuscript text must be submitted in a separate document (including tables) and should not include any identifying information of the authors or their affiliations. Manuscript text documents should be sectioned as abstract, keywords, introduction, patients and methods, results and discussion. Please use no more than three levels of displayed headings. Abbreviations should be defined at first mention and used consistently afterward.

Abstract

An abstract of 150-250 words is required and should be structured as follows: background, objectives, methods, results and conclusion. If your research includes clinical trials, the trial registry name and URL, and registration number must be included at the end of the abstract.

Keywords

Please include 3-5 keywords, listed after the abstract. Keywords should be as specific as possible to the research topic.

Text Formatting

  • Manuscripts should be submitted in Word.
  • Use a 12-point Times Roman font for text.
  • Use italics for emphasis.
  • Use the automatic page numbering function to number the pages.
  • Use the table function, not spreadsheets, to make tables.
  • Use the equation editor or MathType for equations.

Scientific style

  • Please always use internationally accepted signs and symbols for units (SI units).
  • Genus and species names should be in italics.
  • Generic names of drugs are preferred; if trade names are used, the generic name should be given at first mention.

Tables

  • All tables are to be numbered using Arabic numerals.
  • Cite all tables in the manuscript text in consecutive numerical order.
  • Place tables on a separate page(s) at the end of your article.
  • For each table, please supply a table caption (title) explaining the components of the table.
  • Identify any previously published material by giving the original source as a reference at the end of the table caption.
  • Place any table notes below the table body, indicated by superscript lower-case letters (or asterisks for significance values and other statistical data).
  • Tables must be submitted as editable text, not as images.

Figures

  • All figures are to be numbered using Arabic numerals.
  • Cite all figures in the manuscript text in consecutive numerical order.
  • Submit figures as separate files, naming them figure 1, figure 2 etc.
  • Please supply a figure caption for each figure and add it after the tables section in the manuscript file.
  • Figures can be supplied in TIFF, EPS, JPEG or PNG formats.
  • Each figure should be less than 2 MB in size.

References

  • Reference citations in the text should be identified by numbers in square brackets.
  • You can refer to author names within your text, but you must always give the reference number, e.g., "Barnaby and McArthur [8] demonstrated a different result ....".
  • Number references in the order they appear in your article.
  • If available, please always include DOIs as full DOI links in your reference list (e.g. “https://doi.org/xyz”).

Supplementary Information:

  • Cite all supplementary files in the manuscript text.
  • Submit supplementary information as separate files, naming them supp 1, supp 2 etc.
  • Include a concise, descriptive caption for each supplementary file.
  • Spreadsheets should be submitted as .csv or .xlsx files (MS Excel).
  • Supplementary Information will be published as received from the author without any conversion, editing, or reformatting.

After Acceptance:

  1. Upon acceptance, you will receive an email confirming acceptance of the manuscript and asking you to settle the article processing charges (APCs) of EGP1500, to cover the costs of the professional production of articles.
  2. Your article will undergo typesetting.
  3. You will receive an email containing your article’s proofs. The purpose of the proof is to confirm the names and affiliations of the authors, check for typesetting or conversion errors and the completeness and accuracy of the text, tables and figures. Substantial changes in content, e.g., new results, corrected values, title and authorship, are not allowed without the approval of the Editor.
  4. The article will be published online in the next issue after receipt of the corrected proofs.
